Homeowners' pick for heating and cooling across the Arkansas Ozarks and Little Red River country

Thermostat Replacement

We replace failed or outdated thermostats on furnaces, heat pumps and AC systems for homeowners across Arkansas, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Tennessee. You need a replacement when the display is dead, the temperature reading drifts, the system short cycles or won't respond to a setting change, or the old control can't run a newer heat pump's staging. Before you call, check the batteries, confirm the breaker isn't tripped and make sure it's set to heat or cool. If that doesn't fix it, get in touch and we'll schedule a visit on your route.

What a thermostat replacement involves

We shut power to the system at the breaker, pull the old thermostat and look at what's behind it. Wire count matters. Older hill-country homes often have four or five wires where a modern control wants a common wire, and heat pumps need dedicated reversing valve and auxiliary heat connections. We label everything, mount the new base level on the wall, terminate the wires, then power up and run the system through heat and cool. Travel time is part of the job out here, so we come prepared to finish in one trip.

What we check and install

We check the wiring at both ends, because a thermostat problem is sometimes a control board or a chafed wire in the crawlspace instead. We test staging on two-stage furnaces, verify auxiliary and emergency heat call correctly on heat pumps, and confirm the fan runs independently. On homes with propane or wood backup, we set changeover so the system isn't fighting itself. Then we install the thermostat you want, programmable or simple, and set the schedule with you standing there so you know how to change it.

How we decide replacement is the right call

A thermostat gets replaced when it's the actual fault, not before. If the display is blank with fresh batteries, if the room reads several degrees off a separate thermometer, or if the contacts no longer close on a call, that's a replacement. We also replace controls that can't handle a system change, like a single-stage thermostat left on a new heat pump. If the real trouble is a blown low-voltage fuse, a stuck contactor or a dirty flame sensor, we tell you that and fix the actual problem instead.

Thermostat Replacement — quick answers

Can I keep my old thermostat when I get a new heat pump?

Sometimes, but often not. Newer heat pumps need a control that manages staging, auxiliary heat and changeover. We check your existing wiring and tell you whether the old thermostat can run the new equipment properly.

Do smart thermostats need extra wiring?

Most need a common wire for steady power. Many older homes across the region don't have one at the thermostat. We check what's in the wall and either run the wire or install an adapter at the equipment.

My thermostat works but the house never hits the setting. Is that the thermostat?

Usually not. That points to airflow, refrigerant charge, duct loss or an undersized system. We test the thermostat first, then move to the equipment so you aren't paying for the wrong repair.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill in the quote form with what the system is doing. Warm air, no air, short cycling, a smell, a breaker that keeps tripping. That detail helps us load the right parts before we roll.

  2. Step 2

    We schedule around travel

Hill-country routes take time, so we give you a realistic window instead of a guess. If you are on a long county road, we tell you that up front and keep you posted if the day shifts.

  3. Step 3

    Diagnose, then explain

We test the system, find the actual fault and walk you through what failed and what the repair involves. You decide before we start. If a part has to be ordered, we say when it lands.

Why homeowners call us

  • Older systems are normal herePlenty of homes on our routes run a heat pump from two decades back, a propane furnace and a wood stove for the cold snaps. We repair what you have rather than pushing you toward replacement on the first visit.
  • Heating and cooling bothSame crew handles air conditioning repair in summer and heating repair in winter. That means we know your system's history when the season flips, and we are not learning your ductwork from scratch in January.
  • We say what we do not knowIf a fault is intermittent, we tell you that instead of replacing parts on a hunch. Sometimes the honest answer is a monitoring period or a second visit when the weather brings the problem back.
  • Regional coverage, local paceWe cover Arkansas, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Tennessee. Travel time is part of every job we quote, so you get a window that accounts for the drive rather than a promise that falls apart.
  • All major brands, gas & electricEvery major HVAC brand, gas and electric, handled by an independent crew.
  • Straight answersNot worth fixing? We say that out loud, and often it saves you the visit fee.
